We often encounter situations where clients ask us for advice: which furniture handles or knobs would best suit their homes? This issue, as you can probably imagine, is very close to our hearts, and we always strive to emphasize the importance of a well-chosen furniture handle for a given interior – it can highlight certain features or provide a contrasting accent, it can tie everything together, but (if poorly chosen) it can also create an uncomfortable contrast, a clash in our surroundings. And our homes and apartments are places where we should, above all, feel good.
Choosing handles and knobs for furniture has recently become even more complicated, as the furniture market offers an increasing number of options. It's no longer enough to think about your interior solely in terms of the desired style. You also need to consider the furniture's finish, color, and texture – an industrial-style kitchen can be equipped with matte gray, glossy gray lacquered, white, or imitating stone or concrete. These elements (in a more basic range) have been present in our homes for a long time, but we've never had such a wide selection. In addition to large chain furniture stores, which offer a wide range of furniture of varying quality, there are now a number of companies specializing exclusively in furniture fronts from chain stores. These fronts are also of higher quality, with a wide range of lacquer colors, milled ornaments, or wooden inlays. How do you choose the right furniture handles and knobs in such a wide range of shapes, colors, and finishes? We'll try to offer you a few tips.
Handles for wooden and veneered furniture
When choosing handles for wooden or veneered furniture, you can go two ways: either try to match the wooden handles to the wooden fronts, or opt for contrasting combinations. In the first case, you need to be patient and, ideally, screw or attach a few knobs or handles to the furniture before making your final decision. Matching the same wood tone for both the furniture and the handle can be difficult (sometimes impossible), but knowing this can be fun and truly create a wow factor in your interior! One idea is to use furniture knobs whose front surface isn't a single plane, but rather consists of creases and a play of light and shadow, as in the MANILA knob. This is a very elegant yet interesting idea, allowing you to take the focus off the wood tones. Another option is to choose furniture knobs and handles composed primarily of wood (for example, those made on a wooden base) but with a colored front. This could be an enamel knob, for example. Depending on the color or pattern, such a small furniture knob can transform the style of the furniture into a raw, almost industrial one (black and gray), a rustic one (white or white and blue fronts), or a pastel or pink tone, softening its appearance to perfectly suit a child's room. You can also opt for contrast, combining wood with steel handles painted in vibrant colors, or black and white knobs with graphics. The latter are definitely a good idea if you don't plan on styling your furniture industrially 😉 Furniture knobs from the KOSMOSY or FACES series add context beyond color, and they simply look great on both wood and chipboard fronts, and the interesting graphics will catch the eye.
Handles for varnished furniture
With lacquered fronts (both glossy and matte), choosing furniture knobs or handles is quite similar. First, we need to consider or plan the overall interior design – if the fronts are more in keeping with the rest of the room, we might want to add handles of a different color or style. For example, gray furniture fronts in a kitchen dominated by black, gray, and white can be complemented with colorful handles on a wooden base. We can also emphasize the cohesion of the entire interior by choosing matching handles – in the kitchen example mentioned above, we could install handles in subdued colors, even in a very "factory" style (such as industrial steel knobs: https://dotmanufacture.com/produkt/kolor-uchwyt-meblowy-industrialny/).
If the furniture fronts are already colorful, you can let your imagination run wild – match the color of the handles to the furniture or choose contrasting colors. And if colorful furniture satisfies your need for a splash of color in the interior, you can tone it down a bit by adding wooden or ceramic furniture knobs.
Whatever your furniture, whether budget-friendly from a chain store or beautifully designed from a manufacturer, the choice of furniture handles or knobs is crucial to the interior. We encourage you to take the time to choose them carefully and (if possible) bring samples of the predominant colors in your interior to our handle manufacturer to help us choose the best knobs for your furniture.
