One of the primary materials at DOT Manufacture is wood. We use oak in most of our wooden furniture handle collections. The entire BASIC series, which includes knobs ranging in diameter from 2 cm to 10 cm, elongated furniture handles secured at two points, and hangers, is oak. The Nature and Just One series are also 100% oak. This wood also forms the base for all enameled and Stamp knobs and handles. In the Klimt and Stratum knobs, we use a wide range of wood species to create a colorful wooden mosaic, while the Just Two collection is based on maple and smoked oak, achieving a striking contrast.
All of these furniture knobs and handles are beautiful additions to furniture. Our customers use them for years, and we ourselves use them every day in our homes. It's worth knowing how to care for wooden furniture handles to keep them looking beautiful.
What doesn't wood like? How can we keep our handles looking beautiful for longer?
Wood doesn't like contact with alcohol as it can permanently discolor and damage the wood's surface. Wooden furniture handles should not come into contact with rough surfaces such as a stainless steel sponge, a rough cleaning sponge, or sandpaper. If wood gets wet, wipe it dry immediately; otherwise, its surface will deteriorate and require a thorough refinishing and sanding. Do wooden furniture handles get dirty? Of course, this depends on the frequency of use, the nature of the room or piece of furniture, and the users themselves. Wooden handles mounted on a wardrobe in an adult bedroom may only need dusting, but on special occasions, they can be gently wiped down. Furniture knobs, which are touched very often, sometimes with dirty hands, are a different story. In such cases, cleaning is in order.
But can wooden furniture handles be cleaned?
Any wooden furniture handle or knob can be cleaned. There are many wood cleaning products available on the market. It's always important to know the type of wood you're dealing with: raw wood, varnished wood, polished wood, or oiled wood. Knowing the type of wood coating will help you choose the right product. How to clean wooden furniture knobs? At our workshop, we use wood oils to impregnate furniture handles. We offer several types of colorless oils, each differing in the type of coating they provide, as well as two staining oils.

What are the common cleaning principles for all our oiled wood handles? We use soft cotton cloths to clean oiled wood. The first step is to clean it with a cloth soaked in a mild soap solution and wrung out well. Wipe the cleaned handle with a second clean, damp cloth and then wipe it dry. Work quickly. If the handle is really dirty, it's worth removing it from the cabinet before cleaning.
What to do when a wooden furniture handle needs refinishing?
If the handle's surface is damaged, it may require refinishing. This isn't difficult. The handle should be unscrewed from the furniture and sanded with fine sandpaper (800 grit or finer), then oiled. Most oils require two coats. Wait a specified number of hours between coats (always follow the manufacturer's recommendations).
